“To be human is to become visible
while carrying what is hidden as a gift to others.”
- David Whyte
what nourishes me:
sacred reciprocity with earth
“Knowing that you love the earth changes you, activates you to defend and protect and celebrate. But when you feel that the earth loves you in return, that feeling transforms the relationship from a one-way street into a sacred bond.”
-Robin Wall Kimmerer
community heals
We learn so much from community without ever realizing how totally we absorb its atmosphere. The community also challenges us to inhabit our own individuality.
memory is our magic
Our ability to remember is our greatest gift, the precursor to storytelling. Through our memory we can keep our ancestors living through us, through song, story, movement, food, ritual and prayer.
storytelling at the centre
Our perceptions are an ongoing, ever-growing. ever-changing story, and our brain allows us to be not just passive listeners to that story, but also the storytellers as well
the hands are an extension of the heart.
one hand gives & the other receives, otherwise imbalance comes forth.
in them, we hold both infinity & nothingness.
for labour & prayer & signals & touch & skill & healing.
it’s all in the palm of your hands.
The peace of wild things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
- Wendell Berry
