“In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions:
When did you stop dancing?
When did you stop singing?
When did you stop being enchanted by stories?
When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?”
Terra Soma Movement is an inclusive community workshop encompassing a variety of dance & physical modalities; intuitively designed to create harmony & strength in the mind-body, while also exploring our growth edges with curiosity.
It has been developed slowly over the years and takes inspiration from earth practices, contemporary dance, the Gaga movement language, Contact Improvisation, Physical Theatre, Tai Chi, and Yoga.
The class explores meditative movement, mobility, flexibility, floor work and improvisational techniques, cultivating the embodied belief that everyone has the ability to unlock their unique expression and come into a more intimate relationship with themselves, community and the sensuous ecosystems around them.
The body becomes our closest friend, and deepest inspiration.
“Alex is masterful dance guide and group facilitator. She creates a space where you can relax deeply into the body and move freely without inhibition. Her work is elemental, heart-led and true medicine for one’s entire being. Her classes are a place where you can truly embody your whole self and transfigure and transform the processes you are working through in your broader life. Could not recommend her enough!”

A note from me:
My movement practice is one of storytelling, one of connection and one of walking along the mythic edge. When words fail, dance holds.
Hard times require furious dancing; joyous times require celebratory dancing. Our bodies speak a very precise language and are speaking to us all the time.
The community element of my workshops is the most inspiring part of it all for me. In a world of headphones and isolation, I believe that to touch and witness one another without many words provides deep healing. It heals the parts of us that we hadn’t even attached a story to.
In so many ways, dance has saved my life. It has gifted the most fierce community, taught me humility, taught me release; instilled gratitude and creative channels throughout my body.
After a youth of studios, exams and restriction I was deeply thankful to meet movement from the yogic and eastern movement cultures and philosophies :: unlearning, unlearning. From this place I was able to return to professional contemporary training and continue to strengthen my craft through various systems and movement modalities.
I move as diversely as I can, I love to move in relationship with the earth and find the channel clearest, the voice clearest in wilderness.
I will dance forever. I hope we can dance together soon.
